Most humans are trichromats, meaning we have three types of cone cells in our eyes to process red, green, and blue. But a small percentage of women are tetrachromats—they possess a fourth cone that sits between the red and green sensors, unlocking a world of nuanced shades that are invisible to the rest of us.

While the average person can distinguish about one million distinct colors, a functional tetrachromat can potentially see up to 100 million. To them, a plain white wall might be a mosaic of countless subtle pigments, and a grocery store aisle could be an overwhelming explosion of data. This happens because the genes for red and green pigments are located on the X chromosome; a specific mutation can create a shifted fourth channel.

This isn't just about 'better' vision—it's a fundamental difference in how the brain constructs reality. It proves that what we call 'truth' in the physical world is often just a limitation of the hardware we were born with.
