At the trench's deepest point, Challenger Deep, roughly 11,000 meters below the surface, the pressure is a staggering 15,750 pounds per square inch (psi). This isn't just uncomfortable; it's physically transformative. Adding to the existential dread, the deep ocean is bathed in perpetual darkness. Sunlight penetrates only about 200 meters. Below that, it's an inky black void, relieved only by the occasional flash of bioluminescence from the bizarre creatures that call this realm home.
